Of Cages and Crowns

Of Princes and Poisons

If I have forgotten a character that you would like a description for, let me know. I included the main characters, but there are definitely more. :)

There is a hardcover of Of Cages and Crowns but no hardcover option for of princes and poisons. Why?

My publisher decided to do away with all of their hardcovers after Of Cages and Crowns came out originally in 2022. They no longer print hardcovers. When Of Princes and Poisons came out in 2024 it had a new, beautiful cover that matched the new paperback version of Of Cages and Crowns. In general, all paperbacks are selling better than hardcovers, thus impacting that decision.

On goodreads it says that of cages and crowns was published in 2018, but it didn’t actually come out until 2022. can you explain why it says that?

I have a pretty unique publishing experience. I actually wrote Of Cages and Crowns (first titled The Culled Crown) starting in March of 2018 and began posting it on Wattpad in the fall of the same year. So, technically speaking, it was first “published” online in late September of 2018. The book gained nearly a million reads and I garnered almost thirty thousand followers on the platform before the book was traditionally published in November of 2022. That is why on Goodreads the book is listed as being first published in 2018. Readers from Wattpad have been reviewing it since 2018.

Is of cages and crowns spicy?

The Culled Crown series does not include open-door sex scenes. It is a Young Adult fantasy series.

Do you host giveaways?

I do! Follow me on Instagram and sign-up for my newsletter to keep up with when I will be doing giveaways of the books, sway, and all sorts of other fun items. I love free things.

How did you get your books popular on wattpad?

Honestly, I have no idea, but…

I can tell you some of the things that I did and didn’t do:

  • I never posted on anyone’s conversation board asking for reads

  • I never messaged anyone asking for reads

  • I never went into anyone else’s comment section asking for reads—those things almost always get ignored and deleted

  • Other readers/authors on Wattpad tend to not like being used as a billboard and those sorts of comments and messages just get ignored or deleted (at least in my experience). I found that friendliness on my own page/in my own comments and consistency in posting always won me more readers than advertising on the site ever did.

Here are some things I did do that I think went a long way into making sure I got noticed by both my publisher and by other readers/writers:

  • I wrote ahead on my book and then created an upload schedule and stuck to it. I posted every Tuesday and Thursday; or Monday, Wednesday, and Friday (whatever works for you, stick with it—consistency matters). Readers want to know that you are going to finish your book. No one likes a TV show that gets canceled or a series that never is finished, keep going and show up on time each time with a new episode.

  • I interacted with readers. I left an emoji or commented back (this is easier now than ever, because now they let you like comments, it didn’t used to be that way).

  • I used to announce ON MY PAGE (on my Wattpad conversation wall, to my own followers) when I was posting, so people knew that a new chapter was going up.

  • I would have an “emoji of the chapter” that I would have my readers leave at the end if they enjoyed reading. Sometimes it had to do with the chapter, sometimes it was just like a dolphin and had nothing to do with anything at all. Have fun with it. Be silly. Make friends. This also boosts interaction on your chapter which can help the algorithm, though I honestly never paid much attention to that. I was just writing and doing what sounded fun at the time.

  • Don’t pressure yourself to have a ton of followers or a ton of reads right away—I know this one is hard, but it doesn’t always happen right away. There are a lot of books on Wattpad and it can take time to get your book seen. Keep working. I wrote nine books before I ever had the courage to let anyone read anything I wrote. My tenth book got me a book deal.

  • I don’t want to be a broken record but: consistency. Post and post on a schedule.

You’ve got this bestie. I really do believe in you. If you want to post on Wattpad—and I am not saying you should or shouldn’t, here are some things to do ^

how can i get my book signed?

There are a few different ways:

  • I do giveaways with signed books - sign up for my newsletter and follow me on instagram to be the first to hear about when those will be happening.

  • I sometimes run purchase incentives where if you turn in your receipt for Of Cages and Crowns or Of Princes and Poisons I will send you a signed bookplate. So keep your receipt whenever possible—I suggest tucking receipts for books in the back of them, you never know when they might come in handy! <3 I know other authors sometimes do the same thing.

How can i contact you?

The best way to contact me is through my instagram DMs. I tend to check those the most frequently, though I cannot promise a response, I will do my best to do so. If it is a business inquiry, please include an email and your name so I can loop in my publisher/publicist via email if necessary. We will do our best to get back to you in a timely manner. Thank you!
